Year 7 Growing Project

17th January 2020

This week Stormont House School tasted some of the produce from the Year 7 food growing project. The students had harvested two whole crates of rocket leaves from the roof garden. They were all very proud to take their produce to Mr Gabriel our Chef Educator in the kitchen so that he could use it for the school lunches. The students also provided herbs such as coriander, sage, chives and thyme.

This week Year 7 began planning for the next growing season in Spring and Summer 2020. They measured all the raised beds and calculated how much growing space they will need for the plants they choose. Based on the size of the beds the students debated what vegetables they should grow and then bought their selection of seeds. The next stage will be to start to grow some plants off in the warm solar dome and move them to the raised beds when spring comes. Year 7 can’t wait to see how their plants grow – we will update everyone with more news as it comes in from the students.
