World Autism Awareness Week - Monday 26 March to Monday 2 April 2018

23rd March 2018

World Autism Awareness Week takes place on 26 March - 2 April 2018. To celebrate and raise awareness at Stormont House School, all of the classes will be learning about Autism during their tutor time sessions. Students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions about Autism by adding to the awareness tree.

FAST FACTS

  1. Autism affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people, and how they experience the world around them.

  2. Autism is much more common than most people think. There are around 700,000 autistic people in the UK - that's more than 1 in 100.

  3. People with Autism may find some things hard and other things really easy. No two people with Autism are the same, just like we are all different from each other.

  4. Satoshi Tajiri, the inventor of Pokémon, is autistic.

  5. Mozart, Einstein and Sir Isaac Newton had autistic characteristics and would probably be diagnosed with autism if they were alive today.

  6. 90% of autistic people have sensory issues. This means they experience the world really intensely but they sometimes find it too bright, loud and confusing.
