Working with artist Sam Ayre and The Whitechapel Gallery

28th April 2017

This half term a selection of our most talented and dedicated artists are working on a project with local artist Sam Ayre. Students have been selected from years 7 to 11 to take part, with 20 students involved in all.

On Thursday 20 April the project began by visiting The Whitechapel Gallery to view Eduardo Paolozzi’s work. Students explored print, collage, drawings, textiles and sculptures, which were all completed by Paolozzi over his life time as an artist. The students made some beautiful sketches and showed real maturity and insight when engaging with the artworks. Everyone had a fantastic afternoon.

Each week this half term, in Expressive Arts, students will be exploring materials and themes addressed in Paolozzi’s artworks and working with Sam to create their own collaborative pieces of art. The finale of this exciting project will be students exhibiting their own artwork in The Whitechapel Gallery! Details of this event will be made available nearer the time.
