Year 8 and the Apollo Orchestra

15th July 2016
Miss Cross, Ms Aboagye, Mr Ramphul, Ms Clements and Mr Shaun were all very pleased  with Year 8 on their visit to the Apollo Orchestra concert at the Hackney Empire on Wednesday 13th July. The full symphony orchestra was present including violins, violas, cellos, double basses, flutes, piccolos, clarinets , oboes ,bassoons, contrabassoons, timpani, trombones, trumpets, French horns  and even a triangle.
The visit was part of a project that Year 8 have been undertaking, where they have been learning the sounds and names  of musical instruments. Year 8 have been visited on three occasions by the members of the Apollo orchestra . The concert was very varied, beautiful ,peaceful and exciting , but serious music. The students heard two movements of  Mozart Violin Concerto Number 5 and Brahm’s 4th Symphony . A young Polish violinist was the violin soloist. Our students did very well to concentrate for a full hour. During the concert, you could hear a pin drop. Everyone listened so well. The conductor commented on the  audience’s excellent listening . Everyone  enjoyed the concert and were  very well behaved they all concentrated really well and asked some great questions afterwards about the instruments that they had seen and heard.
