Year 12’s College Adventure Begins

22nd September 2017

A new school year means new exciting experiences and lessons to learn. This is especially true for the Year 12’s, who will spend the year experiencing college life as part of the sixth forms split provision. This year we have 7 partner providers, which is the most we have ever had. Our partners include Hackney Community College (now known as New City College Hackney), ELATT, WAC Performing Arts and Media College, City and Islington College, Capel Manor College, Oaklands College in St Albans and Hackney Inspire. This year’s cohort are studying a variety of vocational courses on their college days. We have students studying Catering, Media, Equine studies, Animal care, Gardening, Art and Design, Sport, Performing Arts and Web Design. As part of our in school study programme the Year 12’s will be working towards improving their Maths and English. In addition they will be starting some completely new subjects like BTEC Workskills where they will start their own Enterprise and work 1 day a week for 10 weeks as part of an extended work experience. They will also get the opportunity to accomplish the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award and brave the wilds of Epping Forest in 2 overnight campouts. Year 12 is a jam packed year and one that the sixth formers have started very well. Last week they completed their first week at both college and school. For many of the students the first day at college was an exciting but nervous time, but they all attended and many of them impressed our partner providers with their positive attitude and boundless enthusiasm. Well Done Year 12 on having such a positive start to Sixth Form!
