St Patrick’s Day Celebrations at Stormont House

22nd March 2019

On Friday 15 March Stormont House hosted the ‘St Patrick’s Troupe’ who have visited us every year for over 20 years to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. The students were treated to traditional Irish songs and dancing – the dancers wore two types of shoes hard shoe (or heavy shoe) and soft shoe (or light shoe - ghillies) to perform their amazing dances. The students were taught how to say ‘Happy St Patrick’s Day 2019’ in Irish - Lá Fhéile Pádraig Shona Dhurt! 2019. As you can see from the picture above the troupe played a variety of instruments including: Celtic Harp, tin whistles, Bodhrán (a Celtic drum), fiddle, accordion and concertina. All of the students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the performance and can’t wait for the troupe to return next year.
