SPEECH AND LANGUAGE CORNER – Different ways we communicate

2nd November 2018

Ms Anstee and Ms May are the Speech and Language Therapists working at Stormont House and they have enjoyed supporting students to achieve their goals so far this Autumn Term. At Stormont some students communicate using a total communication approach. They may use a combination of speech, signing, facial expression, body language, writing, pictures, or a talking device to understand and express themselves. In a recent school assembly a selection of students showed how they use their talking devices and pictures. The formal name for these are AAC (alternative and augmentative communication). AAC has been in the press quite a lot lately, an AAC user won Britain’s Got Talent!
