National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships 2019 Champions

22nd March 2019

Students from Stormont House took part in the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships on Friday 15 March, it is one of the biggest events of its kind in the world. The competition was held at the Copper Box Arena at the Olympic Village. Over 2000 young people from across the UK took part and our students had to face fierce competition in their events from the students from other schools / clubs from all corners of the UK.

This year’s event was very successful for Stormont House, our students won a number of medals. Many of the students beat their own personal best results in their relevant age categories. DJ (Yr. 9) and Brett (Yr. 12) both won gold medals, Leona won a silver medal (in her first ever competition) and Lesny won a bronze!

Peter Reed OBE attended the event he is a retired British Olympic rower, he is a three-time Olympic gold medallist – earning gold in the Men's coxless fours at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, and then a gold medal in the Men's eight at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. All of the Stormont students were really excited to meet and have their pictures taken with him.

The students that represented Stormont House were: Leona 7, Tallulah S 9, Pinar 10, Lesny 11, Victoria 12, Kishone 8,

DJ 9, Vijay 10, Tommy 10 and Brett 12.

Mr Hajdrych was very proud of all of the competitors from Stormont and is looking forward to seeing them compete again next year. This year in July the team will be taking part in the London Youth Games Indoor Rowing competition at the National Athletics Centre in Crystal Palace. It will be another test for the team as they have to face 32 other boroughs from all over London. Mr Hajdrych is convinced the team will try their hardest to win in their events!
