Lanya Junior High Annual Visit

The annual visit by Lanya Junior High School from Taiwan took place from Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 July. Year 7 and 8 have been skyping their pen pals from Lanya on a regular basis throughout the year and were very excited to meet their partners. Twenty one students and three members of staff arrived early on Tuesday morning ready to experience life at Stormont House. The children were placed in groups in the four classes in Years 7 and 8. The students experienced, making a castle, biscuit making, drama games, plastic art based on ‘Saving our Oceans’, UK and Taiwanese money, African drumming.

On Wednesday Year 7 took their partners to Clissold Park to experience one of Hackney’s loveliest green spaces, the children played lots of games and played in the play park with their friends. On Thursday the group went out to experience the ‘Tower of London’ which links in to their work on castles and the Tudors. On Friday Lanya’s last day the students experienced making a dreamcatcher, the London skyscraper challenge, the Tower of London quiz and circle time games. At the end of the day the students all got together to celebrate the Lanya visit. Many of the students from both Stormont House and Lanya performed in a talent show - which included singing, dancing, playing the recorder, magic tricks and a demonstration of karate.

Ms Lai the lead teacher from Lanya stated: “Our visit to Stormont House is the highlight of our visit to England, for some of my students they may never get the chance to come to the UK again in their lifetime. All of the students have made wonderful friends and enjoyed every moment of their visit. I am already looking forward to visiting again next year.”
