Junior Citizenship Workshops at Hackney Museum

24th January 2020

Congratulations Year 8! You are now safer Hackney citizens. On Monday 20 January, our Year 8 students participated in a series of workshops designed to deliver valuable life-skills. TfL’s ‘Safety & Citizenship Team’ delivered on personal safety and respectful travel on public transport. London Fire Brigade showed us what to do in case of fire in the home and how to reduce our personal risk. Hackney’s Mental Health & Wellbeing Team highlighted good dental hygiene, and how to ensure better mind health. The Blue Cross Animal Charity & Dogs Trust gave important safety tips to use around dogs in the neighbourhood. Police Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood’s Schools Team explained their role in keeping us safe and how they rely on our eyes and ears for their intelligence. In addition, Hackney Museum staff used their collections to bring to life a child’s story from the past.

Each small group made our children more aware of what they can do to help themselves and others make responsible decisions for a healthier, safer lifestyle. It was an enjoyable experience for us all, and our students represented the school really well.
