‘Time to be Heard’ Hackney Young Futures Commission

21st June 2019

On Friday 14th June 2019 students were treated to a visit from Jermain Jackman and Emma Winch from the Hackney Young Futures Commission. They came to launch a very special project called ‘Time to be Heard’. Jermain told our students of his incredible journey to become winner of ‘The Voice, 2014’ and of his plans to help amplify the voices of the young people of Hackney. His plan is for the Council to hear from all young people about the various challenges they face, how they feel about local services, and most importantly what recommendations they have for making Hackney a better place for young people in the future. Our students did brilliantly they were warm and welcoming and asked lots of important questions. They engaged in the activities with great enthusiasm and made very thoughtful recommendations. The feedback we received says it all:

"Jermain and I loved the session today, it’s been my favourite so far on the commission, such bright and brilliant students, I can’t wait to start inputting everything they have shared with us and their ideas, it really was a very powerful session." Emma Winch

Our thanks and appreciation go to this group of young people for representing us all so well. In the coming weeks they will in turn help their peers to complete the same survey of questions they answered in the session with Jermain and Emma.
