Food Technology

All students study Edexcel Level 1 and/or 2 Home Cooking Skills which prepares pupils with the necessary skills required to enjoy home-style cooking. This course is a great way of providing students with skills needed to plan, prepare and cook independently. Students learn cooking skills through lessons in food preparation techniques, diet, nutrition, hygiene, safety, menu planning and economising.


Students produce a variety of fresh, home cooked foods and beverages including recipes for example spaghetti bolognese, macaroni cheese, pizza, lamb kebabs, which they make in the lesson and take home. Students are encouraged to develop their cooking skills by practising at home. They are given the opportunity to experience using various equipment in the Food Technology room to enhance their skills.


The importance of healthy eating is promoted throughout the course to motivate people to adapt a healthy lifestyle.
