Autumn Term in the English Department - Years 7, 8 and 9

23rd September 2016

As part of the English curriculum students in Years 7, 8 and 9  will have weekly spellings and a reading record to be completed both at home and school.  This will ensure that they will be reading every day either to or with an adult.

Each student will have a book from the Accelerated Reader programme that is tailored to their own reading ability and interests.  The student should read the book to an adult and then record this with the adults assistance in their ‘Superstar Reader Book’. There may be some tricky words for parents / carers to help their child with, these should be recorded in the ‘Superstar Reader Book’. Books should be returned to school every Monday so that they may be used in English lessons.

Each student will also receive weekly spellings which they should practice at home using the look, cover, write, check process; information about this process will be in the students spelling record book. Parents / Carers are requested to  sign the spelling record book each week and leave a comment if necessary.

Any additional homework will appear on the Stormont House School e-learning platform that can be accessed via the school website If you have any queries please contact your child’s English teacher directly. (Listed below)
