21st July 2017

Mr Hajdrych had great news for all of the students in Years 7-10, he had been successful in bidding for the students to attend the ‘World Para Athletics Championships 2017’. The championships took place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, all of the students attended the event on Monday 17 July, they were accompanied by their form tutors and TA’s.

It was a very early start for as they had to be at the stadium ready for a 10.30am start. Everyone was very excited as they got closer to the stadium - the championship volunteers were encouraging the students to take part in cheering on the athletes and undertaking the activities which would take place between each event.

Once inside the stadium the students were able to experience the following events:

1500 Metres

Club Throw

100,200 and 400 Metres

Javelin Throw

Long Jump

Shot Put

Discus Throw

Every time a British athlete competed the stadium erupted with the cheers of all the students and staff that were present from schools all over London. Our students thoroughly enjoyed their morning of athletics.

On Tuesday 18 July Ms Napier and a selection of Year 12 students accompanied staff from Young Hackney to experience the championships for themselves. The students saw Discus Throw, Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump and a variety of races which included - 100, 200, 400 and 1500 metre events.

The students particularly enjoyed when the ‘Dab’ camera panned around the stadium, Nathan was determined that his dab was going to be the best one in the whole arena.
