Stormont House School - Celebrate World Book Day

3rd March 2017

Stormont House School celebrated ‘World Book Day’ on Thursday 2 March 2017, the day started with a whole school assembly lead by Ms Driver and Ms Foster. As they looked out into the audience they were amazed at all of the students who had come to school dressed as their favourite book character. The assembly started by discussing what World Book Day is about - It is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading. It is the biggest celebration of its kind and is marked in 100 countries around the world.

This year it is the 20th year there’s been a World Book Day. The main aim of World Book Day in the UK is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. Each school has received £1 Book Tokens one for each student. Your child can take their voucher to a local bookseller and can use it to pick one of TEN -exclusive, new and completely free - books. Or, if they’d rather, they can use it to get £1 off any book or audio book costing over £2.99 at a participating bookshop or book club.

The students at Stormont made a wonderful effort to dress as a character from their favourite book - can you work out who they are?
