Step Into Dance
24th November 2016
Over the past couple of years Stormont House School has been involved with the ‘Step Into Dance’ project which is provided by a partnership between the Jack Petchey Foundation and the Royal Academy of Dance. The project is the UK’s largest fully inclusive secondary school dance programme. The Year 7 students at Stormont House have been able to experience weekly dance sessions with a professional dance instructor which promote self-confidence, self-discipline and respect for others through the medium of high quality dance teaching and performance.
As part of the programme Mr Hajdrych put the Year 7 students forward for a programme called ‘Step Together’, where they would be partnered with students from a main stream secondary school to undertake a dance project. Stormont House was partnered with the Bridge Academy. Unfortunately on the day of the first session the students from Bridge Academy were unable to attend, Mr Hajdrych decided to go ahead with the session to give the Year 7’s a taste of what would be expected from them. All of the Year 7’s danced exceptionally well and thoroughly enjoyed the activity.
