Lily - National Tennis Champion

The Tennis Foundations National Learning Disability Tennis Championships in partnership with Special Olympic Great Britain took place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 October 2016 in Wrexham Tennis Centre in Wales.
Lily (Year 11) took part in the Women’s Division 1 singles competition at the championships where she beat Laura Campbell who was one of Great Britains gold medalists from the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles. Lily won the competition and returned home with a gold medal.
Lily was invited to attend a special event at St James’ Palace on Wednesday 26 October - the event was a celebration for the most successful Paralympic Games ever for players on its World Class Performance Programme.
Lily got the chance to meet some of the atheletes who represented Paralympics GB - Gordon Reid, Alfie Hewett, Andy Lapthorne. She was also introduced to Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester, Honorary President, of the Lawn Tennis Association. Lily spoke to the Duchess about how tennis had helped her to improve her life, through competing she has been able to build her confidence and make friends with people who have the same interest.
