Year 7

7C

In Year 7 pupils follow a Foundation course in Design Technology that introduces them to the design process by exploring needs that can be met through planned activities. They are encouraged to generate ideas that will fulfil these needs and are taught to develop designing and making skills using a variety of materials and components. Discussion, evaluation and health and safety issues are all integral to the course.

This year in Graphics, 7M pupils  create a soft drink can mock-up using typography and advertising. They have also designed and made a pop-up menu for a stone-age diner aimed at kids and will design and make a take-away bag for the same restaurant. Pupils learn about the expressive use of typography and ICT as well as creative pop-up mechanisms.

This year in Graphics, 7C experiment with a variety of tools and materials to develop their understanding of the subject. Pupils are introduced to calligraphy and illustrated their skills by creating a book marker.

Pupils are also given the opportunity to develop their computer skills by exploring Sign, Symbols and Monograms. Pupils create a sign for a subject of their choice and a monogram using their names. Pupils then use their monogram design as a starting point to introduce polystyrene print.

During the summer term pupils are encouraged to develop their drawing skills by transforming two dimensional forms (square, and triangle) into three dimensions (cube, and pyramid); They also explore perspective. Finally pupils work on sequencing a story and event. They focus on communicating an event/story without words.
