BTEC Level 2 Award in Home Cooking Skills

Some of our Year 11 students have been working towards the BTEC Level 2 Award in Home Cooking Skills (QCF).  Next week they will be taking their practical assessment where they will need to prepare and cook a nutritionally balanced 2 course meal.  As part of the assessment students will show how they chose and prepared the ingredients for the recipes by selecting the correct ingredients, weighing, measuring and using the preparation skills identified in the recipes.  The tutor will observe the students demonstrating their cooking skills and use of appropriate equipment.  As well as preparing and cooking the meal according to the recipes, students will also show that they are preparing and cooking the food safely and hygienically and present the meal attractively.
