Black History Month - Thursday October 1 to Saturday October 31, 2015

Black History Month was first celebrated in the UK in 1987 and is annually celebrated in October in the UK and February in the USA. It is the time of year when the culture, history and achievements of black and ethnic minority communities take centre stage. Our students will look at the following people: Nelson Mandela, anti-apartheid revolutionary, Beyoncé Knowles, bestselling music artist, Louis Armstrong, jazz pioneer, Maya Angelou, award-winning writer and poet. In Stormont House School we are celebrating BHM by presenting a whole school assembly.

The students will also be experiencing a Caribbean lunch which will include: : Fried Fish / Fried Dumplings / Salt Fish / Ackee / Calaloo / Bread Fruit / Yam / Sweet Potato / Plantain / Caribbean Fish / Fried Chicken and Jallof Rice / Curried Goat / Salad / Carrot Cake and Custard / Ginger Beer.
